How to get DMZ Early Access in Modern Warfare 4

The rule is narrower than most guides make it sound: a digital pre-order or digital pre-purchase, with either digital edition qualifying. Everything else — physical copies, other platforms, the campaign window — does not change that answer.

Access is decided by the edition on your account

The requirement in one sentence

If you digitally pre-ordered or digitally pre-purchased Modern Warfare 4 — the Standard digital edition or the Vault edition — you get DMZ Early Access fromOctober 20, 2026 at 10 AM PT. If you did not, the mode unlocks with the full launch on October 23.

The requirement in one sentence

The official community announcement on October 20 described eligibility as applying to players who had digitally pre-ordered or pre-purchased the game, naming the Standard Digital Edition and the Vault Edition. The official DMZ page lists the same two editions against the October 20 date.Official

There is no separate DMZ purchase, no subscription tier, and no free trial. The mode is part of the product you bought, unlocked early.

Standard digital vs Vault

Both editions carry DMZ Early Access — the difference is content, not access. Vault adds a DMZ Deployment Bonus and an extra Active Duty Operator slot. If your decision is only about playing early, the cheaper edition is enough. Thefull comparison separates what Activision lists officially from what third-party guides claim.

What physical copies do not include

The official wording we could read is limited to digital pre-orders and pre-purchases. A physical pre-order is not named in it, and the official edition list pairs DMZ Early Access with digital editions only.

We did not find a statement saying physical copies are excluded outright, so treat this as "not confirmed" rather than "excluded" — but plan on the assumption that a physical copy will not unlock the window. If you bought a digital key through a reseller, check that it is a full digital entitlement before you assume the problem is on Activision's side.

If it did not unlock

Work through these six checks before contacting support

  1. Confirm the purchase type. A physical disc, an old code, or a bundle without the base game will not qualify.
  2. Confirm the edition. Both digital editions qualify; a pre-order of a different product on the same storefront does not.
  3. Confirm the date has passed locally. In Asia and Oceania the window opens on October 21 — see thetime zone table.
  4. Confirm the update landed. It should have been live by 9 AM PT on October 19.
  5. Confirm the DMZ content is selected. On console and in the Call of Duty HQ launcher it may need installing separately from the campaign.
  6. Then escalate, with your order confirmation, throughsupport.activision.com/mw4.

Buying after the window opened

Launch coverage indicates the early access purchase offer was still available after October 20, with the entitlement attaching as soon as the purchase completed.Media report We could not confirm that from an official page, so check the store page for the current offer rather than assuming it. Either way, buying now still gets you the game and DMZ — you lose the extra days of DMZ-only progression before launch, which is the entire reason the pre-order exists.

Eligibility FAQ

Do I need the Vault Edition?
No. The official requirement names digital pre-orders and pre-purchases, and the official edition list shows both the Standard digital edition and the Vault edition carrying DMZ Early Access. Vault adds content, not access.
Does a physical pre-order count?
Not according to the official wording we could read, which is limited to digital pre-orders and pre-purchases. Physical editions are not named, so treat them as not qualifying unless Activision says otherwise.
Is DMZ Early Access free?
No. It is part of the paid product — not a free trial, and not a separate purchase.
Can I play on PS4 or Xbox One?
No. The platforms named in official material are PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. Older consoles are not listed.
