Which edition

MW4 Standard vs Vault edition for DMZ Early Access

Both digital editions get you into DMZ Early Access, so this is a content question, not an access question. We split the bonus list into what Activision officially lists and what third-party guides claim, because the two do not always agree — and the DMZ-specific items are exactly what people are buying the Vault edition for.

Both digital editions get you in — the difference is what you carry on day one

Straight answer

You do not need the Vault edition for DMZ Early Access. Buy the standard digital edition if you want early access and nothing else. Vault is worth it if you care about the DMZ Deployment Bonus, an extra Active Duty Operator slot, or the wider cosmetic bundle — and especially if you already own a previous Call of Duty game, because you then get a 10% loyalty discount on it.

Do you need Vault for early access?

No. The official early access requirement names digital pre-orders and pre-purchases, and the official edition list shows both the Standard digital edition and the Vault edition carrying DMZ Early Access from October 20.Official

This matters more than it sounds. Plenty of guides blur the two editions together, and plenty of pre-order threads are really about which bonus pack to pick. If your question is only "can I play DMZ early", the answer does not depend on the edition at all.

What the DMZ Deployment Bonus contains

Activision lists a DMZ Deployment Bonus as one of the Vault edition items on the official DMZ page.Official The official page does not expand what is inside it.

Third-party guides describe it as a package of DMZ-specific content, and detailed breakdowns exist — but we could not match any of them to an item list on an official page, so we are not going to reproduce one. If the Deployment Bonus is why you are considering Vault, the honest position is: it exists, the official page does not detail it, and you should check the store page on the day you buy.

Active Duty Operator slots

Third-party guides describe two Active Duty Operator slots in the standard edition and three in the Vault edition.Media report We have not confirmed the slot counts against an official page.

If that difference is real, it is the most directly useful part of the Vault edition for DMZ specifically — an extra Operator means an extra trait tree in play at once, which compounds across a three-day grinding window. Check theFOB progression page for how Operators and traits work before deciding it matters to you.

The loyalty discount

The official DMZ page states that players who own previous Call of Duty titles receive a10 percent loyalty discount on the Vault Edition.Official

If that applies to you, the decision is close to automatic: Vault at 10% off is usually better value than the standard edition plus nothing, because the DMZ-specific items live in Vault.

Decision

Which edition should you buy?

Buy the standard digital edition if

  • Your only goal is DMZ Early Access.
  • You play the campaign or multiplayer more than DMZ.
  • You do not own previous Call of Duty games, so there is no loyalty discount.
  • You would rather not pay a premium for cosmetics.

Upgrade to Vault if

  • You own earlier Call of Duty titles and can use the 10% loyalty discount.
  • The DMZ Deployment Bonus and the extra Operator slot matter to you.
  • You will grind DMZ for the whole window and want the extra slot in play.
  • You play the campaign and multiplayer too, and want the wider bundle.

What this page deliberately does not do is call one edition "better". The right answer depends on which half of the game you play, and the early access window is the one stretch of time where DMZ weight is temporarily higher than usual.
